Alaskan Husky

The Alaskan Husky not so much a breed of dog as it is a dog type. It is bred with one purpose in mind, to be a top rate sled dog. If it fails in this regard, it is regarded by many breeders as basically useless. They are strong and fast with stamina and endurance.

Racers consider it a mixed-breed or hybrid dog. Because so may breeds contribute to its make-up, is appearance is greatly varied. The Siberian Husky, staghound, foxhound, greyhound and Doberman can all be a part of this breed.

To those who keep them as pets, the dog is reserved and calm, almost shy. It is friendly to people it knows and curious about people it does not know. They rarely bark, more often they howl or yelp. If you're looking for a watchdog, look elsewhere. This breed is just too friendly. These traits are necessary since the dog is often meeting many new people while racing.

Males of this breed are typically 45-50 pounds while females are 38-42 pounds.
