English Shepherd
The English Shepherd, an American dog, is a Collie-like dog that is a descendant of the shepherding dogs found in Scotland and Northern England. This working dog was valued for their watchdog skills as well as their hunting and herding ability; considered the perfect all around farm dog. This breed is intelligent and devoted, always very responsive to their master. They are excellent companions for children and are generally friendly with other dogs. The English Shepherd makes an excellent watchdog, and is quite reserved with strangers. An energetic breed, this dog often excels at competitive agility trials. This dog is also quite adaptable, easily fitting into style of family living. This breed is very active and needs regular exercise daily. They are not well-suited for apartment living, preferring a country setting that affords them the ability to run and roam freely. It is a medium sized dog that stands between 18 and 23 inches and weighs between 40 and 62 pounds. Their medium coat can be wavy or straight, and seen in sable, black & white, black & tan, or tricolor. This breed needs little to no grooming. With hip dysplasia as their only health concern, this is a healthy breed, living between 12 and 16 years. Litters sizes vary greatly.
